It can be surprising to lower a rear window and find that it stops several inches above the bottom of the door. On many vehicles, that is completely normal. The window is not necessarily stuck, and the regulator may be working exactly as designed. The reason usually comes down to door shape and available space. Rear doors often curve around the wheel opening, leaving less room inside the lower section of the door for the glass to travel. Vehicle designers have to work around that shape while still fitting the window regulator, lock hardware, wiring, speakers, impact beams, and other components inside the same narrow space. The Rear Wheel Opening Limits Space The biggest restriction is often the rear wheel arch. On many sedans, hatchbacks, and crossovers, the rear door follows the shape of the wheel opening.
